Make your own plate hanger – Thank you Martha!

This week marks 2 years since we moved into our house.  This house is double the square footage of the place we were renting and some walls just seem to be harder to decorate than others for me.
So this last month I FINALLY got a wall in the living / dining room finished!
Here’s a pic…
The paint is Plantation Beige ~ 1 shade lighter than Tobacco Road (the wonderful shade made famous by the Nester herself).
I love how the mirrors are almost identical size to the framed pictures I have of my kiddos on the other side.  The mirrors were purchased at Big Lots about a year ago for a few bucks each.  They were a scary, brassy gold; but some glossy, black spray paint took care of that.  The wrought iron piece in the middle was purchased at a garage sale for $5.  The plates, trays and bowls around the wrought iron were purchased at Dollar Tree, 99 cent store and garage sales and some were painted Heirloom White.
So onto the DIY part to hook up with Kimba’s Party.  I made the plate hangers following Martha Stewart’s directions.  I was amazed how easy they were.  You need 18 gauge wire, wire cutters, needle nose pliers and black spray paint (if you want to paint).  Her directions are easy to follow and within 20 minutes I had them bent into place and ready to paint the Curly-Q’s black.
The wire cost under $3 at Home Depot ( and I’ve got enough left-over to make at least another 20 plate hangers) and the rest of supplies I had on hand.
Here’s a close-up on the plate hangers…
I think they are so purdy!
Go on over and check out the rest of the amazing DIY’s being featured at Kimba’s DIY Party.
