While browsing Ballard Designs I fell in love!
Isn’t it lovely?
After my awe wore off, I realized how simply (yet monotonously long) this would be to make!
I had a corkboard in the garage… small than Ballard’s… but free.
I found a damask print online and printed it off (I picked a more modern damask because it seemed like it would be easier to trace). Then I tried different methods of tracing a line on the corkboard. Ballpoint pens didn’t work (like on canvas) and pencils just pushed through. My plan was to use a Sharpie pen to make the lines, so I decided to try tracing with the Sharpie. I discovered that if I traced slowly the pen would bleed through just enough to give me a line I could see and draw over.
Almost halfway through…
During my Sunday afternoon I worked 10 minutes and then took a break. I’d say it took me about an hour total of work.
But totally worth it…
I used my free Glidden black paint to paint the frame…
Not sure where this beauty will go… laundry room, computer hutch door, master bedroom desk area?
That’s one of my paint strip choices I’m considering for our master. This corkboard might make a cute planning board for the master makeover?

Amazing — that turned out wonderful. I love the pattern you used and how ingenious to use the sharpies. Where there's a will, there's a way!
I have been eying the same thing for a copycat. You did it magnificently!!
You did a great job. Looks wonderful.
Okay, that turned out SO flippin' CUTE! Great idea with the Sharpie marker and I ♥ the design!!!
CUTE! And you did such a great {neat} job, I surely would have made a mess of that sharpie work!
Great idea and so well done too!!!
I love it! Great job!
I have this corkboard circled in my BD catalog, thinking on how to make my own! Great job! Love the damask print you chose!

That is dedication, but it is beautiful!
Luv it! Great job!
That looks amazing. I too have been Jonesing that board. I'm going to have to try that myself. I have an old corkboard in the closet. Thanks for sharing!!
It's absolutely fantastic. So glad you found the Sharpie seeped through. I'll have to remember that little tip.
Next time your in an arts/crafts store, pick up either graphite paper or colored transfer paper in sewing section.
I use graphite all the time, but colored type washes off w/water.
Nice to have on hand for all kinds of projects.
That is totally awesome! You did such an excellent job!

Great job! I love the way yours turned out!
This is phenominal! I just redid a corkboard for my hubby with some fabric. If I had half of the gumption I would so want to go rip it off the wall and do this to it. Awesome job!
Maryann,
How cute is this?! Love how the print dresses up the cork board.
Enjoy your blog.

Adorable! Never would have thought about doing that, but it turned out so cute!
Okay, you rock! That is just too darn cool!!
That is very pretty, for sure. I love the scroll pattern.
Fantastic job!!! Loved how you took the old corkboard and gave it new life!
Incredible! It must be so satisfying to see it in the house. Now you just need a few fabric swatches hanging off.
This is so cool. You really picked a nice damask and it looks really classy! Who needs Ballard when we have your inspiration!
Fabulous! I don't think I have the patience but I love it. Maybe I can try a more simple pattern.
What a great idea, I love it. Isn't it neat how some things just work out, like the sharpie bleeding through the paper.
It looks like it was well worth the effort. Very nice.
Lovely transformation! I like yours better than the Ballard one, seems more in balance. Happy moodboarding on this one!
This looks fab! Thanks for sharing
Super job! Looks AWESOME! You should be very proud…it looks very nice!

I love this!! You did an amazing job!!
Oh, how clever of you. I knew there was a good reason Sharpiues bleed thru!
Very clever and creative, and I think yours looks just as nice, if not nicer!
Really pretty! Can you tell us where you got the damask design so we can do it too?

That turned out amazing!
That turned out really nice! The sharpie is a great idea.
I fell in love with this bulletin board as well. I just received a catalog from Ballard's. The catalog items are way beyond our household budget for decorating, but it's fun to browse. I love your idea. This post is definitely going into my favorites. I love your blog.
Really pretty and using the sharpie was a great idea! I can see using this for all sorts of things, like hanging jewlery or for messages!
Kat
This is such a great idea! May have to try it out
Fabulous job! Love the design. And I love that you used a sharpie…my kind of project! Thanks for sharing!
That is very cute. Nice job.
Angela
this turned out great! And what a clever idea for tracing the pattern!
How big did you print out the pattern or did you just move it around & line it up? Thanks
Shell… I just printed it out on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. The corkboard is probably 14×20… so I just traced the paper and then moved the paper to line up with the pattern to fill in the other areas. Hope that makes sense.
