I am so happy to share with you that this part of my master bathroom makeover is FINISHED!
I started this project a week ago. This is what I had… a boring, builder mirror…
remember the peek I showed you..
You can read about Part 1 HERE.
Then I hit a snag, remember? Paint problems! My free Glidden giveaway paint didn’t turn out to be the color I was expecting… it was purple. This is not what the Dark French Chocolate looked like on the computer!
You can read about this saga HERE.
With the encouragement and wisdom from fellow bloggers I attempted to mix my own brown, by adding paint to my “dark french chocolate”… but it just turned into a gray purple mess. (Thanks for everyone’s advice and help, but this paint wasn’t losing it’s purple.)
Friday night I went to Lowes to buy the brown I wanted. I can’t tell you how happy I was to find this beauty at the paint counter in their mis-tinted paints.
I did a little dance, much to the embarrassment of my kiddos, and rushed home to paint my eggplant molding.
Saturday morning it looked much better, but I still wanted it a bit darker. So, I added a bit of black paint and…
finally 6 coats later I am espresso brown, happy!
I attached the molding with my trusty hot glue gun!
Here’s a pic with just the 1st frame up.
I love how it looks…
Here’s a close-up of the brown-drama paint.
See those cabinets… they’re next on my bathroom makeover… at least I’ve got the paint color figured out though, right?

Looks wonderful. I love the way the mirrors turned out.
Paint colours can be very frustrating.
That is a great way to add some character to builder basic mirrors. I have a large one like that but with a single basin so I may have to do one large frame. I'll be sure to share the idea with my sister who has the large mirror/double sinks. Thanks for sharing and glad your paint problems were solved.
Really? You put it up with your glue gun? Hmmmmm…..that is seriously awesome, I might just be able to do that it my bathroom. Hubby is saying NO to all projects that involve him until he is caught up but I can run the hotglue gun all by myself! LOL!
Looks great! Bummer about the free paint color being purple! But, hey, Yay for $3 paint, right!
I had a similar problem with my free Glidden paint. I thought I was getting a muted dark pink and it is bright Peptobismal(sp?) pink. I am hoping i can add white to it and tone it down and use it anyway.
Your mirror frame looks FANTASTIC!!!! We have 2 bathrooms with the "huge builder mirrors" thank you for the door frame tip. Good luck with your bathroom. I am looking forward to following your progress.
Hugs, Tara
That looks really good and how exciting that you got a deal on the paint:)
Paint and a glue gun…where would we be without them! Your mirror turne out fabulous! I'm glad you were able to mix your own paint. I LOVE the mistint section at Home Depot!
It looks so wonderful!! I will definitely be doing this in our master and guest bath…thanks for the inspiration!
This looks Amazing! How did you mount it? I definitely need to update a similar mirror in my own bathroom!
Can't believe you just stuck the frames on with hot glue. Ingenious idea!!! The mirror now looks so much better. (Stopping over from Girl Creative)
Wow!! I am super impressed!! Don't ya just love those mis-tints. I know I do.
Love your new look on your mirrors. Did you have any problems with the corners of the board? Joni
Who would guess those frames are on the mirror in stead of around them. It looks amazing and kuddos for you for not ripping them of again (as I probably would have done out of frustration)but making it work.
It looks fab!
That is inspiring! You aren't afraid to take risks and do what needs to be done. I love the frame on the mirror—such an easy way to make it look SOOOO much better. And you are a brave woman with the paint! I would've just paid an arm and a leg for some paint! Great job.
Awesome! Good Job! I love how you used your hot glue gun…makin it super simple!
That looks great. I can't wait to see what you do with the cabinets.
It looks great! It took quite a bit of trial and error to get my free Dark French Chocolate to look anything at all like chocolate. I don't know what Glidden was thinking with that paint color, the name is should be Dark Eggplant instead of chocolate.
Hi,
I just found you at BNOTP and I really like your blog. I am your newest follower.

I love this. You did a great job.
wow, it turned out amazing! glad you lucked out with the great oops paint color
This turned out great. I have a boring builder's mirror I've been dying to put molding around, I never thought to make it into 'two' separate mirrors. Love it!!
Ooohhh, I have the same gorgeous builders mirror ~ how could it get any better? HA! LOVE what you did with yours! I may have to get trimming on mine!
I am in LOVE with this!!! I hate the boring huge mirrors that we have but we'll be moving in a year and I hate to spend money on something new when we won't make that money back. I am totally stealing this idea!
OH WOW! I love it! That is so totally cool! Wanna come do mine??? Gotta show this to hubby!
I would love to do this in my bathrooms, you really used your hot glue gun?
I LOVE ITTTTTTT!!!!!!!
Your mirror turned out gorgeous…even with all of the purple haze drama!!
Looks great! Did you just put the trim right over the little clips that hold the mirror on the wall? I've seen some people take them off, but that makes me nervous.
I really love the tiny squares or the tiny initials necklaces!
Love, love, love the mirrors! I can't wait to read your tutorial. I have several of these mirrors in my home.
My bathrooms all have a single light fixture centered over the mirror. Did you already have two, or did you add that?
Attaching moulding with your glue gun?? Totally Brilliant!!!
Wow. My mother's mirror needs a frame…may be this Spring we should tackle this…thank you for the idea.
i really love that you framed it out to make two mirrors – ingenious!
Getting ready to do a similar thing in my bathroom…the molding is sitting in my living room calling to me! Yours turned out great!
looks awesome – i love framed mirrors!

Smart way to spruce up a drab mirror. I have one of those in my master and was going to take it out. Hmmm, I'll have to rethink that. (When I finally get to that project). Great job it looks awesome!
I have been wanting to do this for forever!! I have the same mirror and even have the molding sitting aside waiting on hubby. I was going to cut it and try to do it myself, nailing alongside the mirror but the edge of the mirror butts up to the wall. I have been thinking of how could I just put it on top of the mirror. A glue gun, seriously?? I was thinking I would have to use E600 or at least liquid nails. The smell of liquid nails just gives me a migraine but VERY sturdy. Along with another commenter, I just have to keep waiting on hubby to finish his list first, HA!! Doin this thing on my own!!
