Master Bathroom Part 3… Mirror Makeover

I am so happy to share with you that this part of my master bathroom makeover is FINISHED!

I started this project a week ago.  This is what I had… a boring, builder mirror…

remember the peek I showed you..

You can read about Part 1 HERE.

Then I hit a snag, remember?  Paint problems!  My free Glidden giveaway paint didn’t turn out to be the color I was expecting… it was purple. This is not what the Dark French Chocolate looked like on the computer!

You can read about this saga HERE.

With the encouragement and wisdom from fellow bloggers I attempted to mix my own brown, by adding paint to my “dark french chocolate”… but it just turned into a gray purple mess. (Thanks for everyone’s advice and help, but this paint wasn’t losing it’s purple.)

Friday night I went to Lowes to buy the brown I wanted.  I can’t tell you how happy I was to find this beauty at the paint counter in their mis-tinted paints.

I did a little dance, much to the embarrassment of my kiddos, and rushed home to paint my eggplant molding.

Saturday morning it looked much better, but I still wanted it a bit darker.  So, I added a bit of black paint and…

finally 6 coats later I am espresso brown, happy!

I attached the molding with my trusty hot glue gun!

Here’s a pic with just the 1st frame up.

I love how it looks…

Here’s a close-up of the brown-drama paint.

See those cabinets… they’re next on my bathroom makeover… at least I’ve got the paint color figured out though, right?

Paint colours can be very frustrating.
That is a great way to add some character to builder basic mirrors. I have a large one like that but with a single basin so I may have to do one large frame. I'll be sure to share the idea with my sister who has the large mirror/double sinks. Thanks for sharing and glad your paint problems were solved.

Really? You put it up with your glue gun? Hmmmmm…..that is seriously awesome, I might just be able to do that it my bathroom. Hubby is saying NO to all projects that involve him until he is caught up but I can run the hotglue gun all by myself! LOL!

I had a similar problem with my free Glidden paint. I thought I was getting a muted dark pink and it is bright Peptobismal(sp?) pink. I am hoping i can add white to it and tone it down and use it anyway.

Who would guess those frames are on the mirror in stead of around them. It looks amazing and kuddos for you for not ripping them of again (as I probably would have done out of frustration)but making it work.

That is inspiring! You aren't afraid to take risks and do what needs to be done. I love the frame on the mirror—such an easy way to make it look SOOOO much better. And you are a brave woman with the paint! I would've just paid an arm and a leg for some paint! Great job.

It looks great! It took quite a bit of trial and error to get my free Dark French Chocolate to look anything at all like chocolate. I don't know what Glidden was thinking with that paint color, the name is should be Dark Eggplant instead of chocolate.

Smart way to spruce up a drab mirror. I have one of those in my master and was going to take it out. Hmmm, I'll have to rethink that. (When I finally get to that project). Great job it looks awesome!

    Adena (aka cre82learn) says:

I have been wanting to do this for forever!! I have the same mirror and even have the molding sitting aside waiting on hubby. I was going to cut it and try to do it myself, nailing alongside the mirror but the edge of the mirror butts up to the wall. I have been thinking of how could I just put it on top of the mirror. A glue gun, seriously?? I was thinking I would have to use E600 or at least liquid nails. The smell of liquid nails just gives me a migraine but VERY sturdy. Along with another commenter, I just have to keep waiting on hubby to finish his list first, HA!! Doin this thing on my own!!
