My $25 Armoire!

Craigslist was good to me last week.  Look what I scored for only $25!
I’ve been watching Craig for the last month hoping to score one.  I wanted an armoire to put in our master bedroom to hide the flat screen hanging on the wall.
Here’s the steps I took:
1st – take off doors, remove drawers and hardware
2nd - sand lightly
3rd - cut the back out of the top section (so our wall mounted TV could slide on in)
4th – prime with Kiltz (what I had in the garage)
5th – give it 2 coats of white paint.  My 1st coat I used up my White on White Glidden paint that I received FREE from one of their giveaways.  The 2nd coat I went and bought Valspar’s White in Satin (their pre-mixed from Lowes)
6th - spray painted all the hardware with my love, Oil Rubbed Bronze (ORB)
7th -  Wait impatiently till it’s all dry to reassemble
And here she is….

Isn’t she pretty all creamy white?
Love the hardware all ORB’ed .
Love the detailed carvings…
and lots of glorious storage inside & of course the perk of hiding of the TV!
And for fun I thought I’d photoshop in a few of the blues from Martha Stewart’s new paint line @ Home Depot ~ that I’m lovin’.
This is Heavenly Blue
and Waterfall.
Which one do you love?
So Martha… if you happen to drop by my blog… I’d love to do a review on your new paint line… I’d just need about 3 gallons of paint for my master bedroom and bath.
So… total cost = $32!
$25 armoire
$8 quart of paint
Not bad!

  28. Woah! That is gorgeous! I can't believe you got it for $25. If only those people realized what they could have done with that. They'd kick themselves if they saw what you did with it!

  41. barbara@hodge:podge says:

The armoire is gorgeous! What a score. I have come across ORB a bit this week and since I am a HUGE fan of spray paint I might have to try it out!

You have done a fabulous job. I love Craigslist – I found 2 console type desks for $80 total and re-painted them. I am going to post next week and link up to your paint party too!

  42. Oh man! I just bought a nice black armoire off of craigslist for $200 and thought I was getting a good deal. Ha! Guess not hardly! (Though I didn't have to do a darn thing to it, so that's a plus.) I have seen some pieces at garage sales and on craigslist that interest me, but I am just so nervous about the painting it part. My biggest question is how to sand something down. What kind of sandpaper do you use? I read somewhere to start with the coursest and then again and again with finer and finer ones until you get to the finest. Sounds like too much work for me. Surely there has to be an easier way.

  43. Maryann @ Domestically-Speaking says:

Lana… I'm going to talk in more detail about painting furniture at this weeks POPP (Power of Paint Party)… hopefully I will answer your questions then.
