114th Power of Paint Party… Apple Green

Welcome Paint Lovers…

I’m desperately trying to finish up the final projects to complete the family room.  So last week when we were having some lovely warm weather I broke out the spray paint.

I bought this chair at a garage sale for $1 about 4 years ago when we moved out here.  It has lived in almost every room of our home at some time.

A couple weekends ago we made some major changes to our Ikea Bookshelves Entertainment Center (that I hope to share next week), so I figured this chair deserved a paint job and pop of color in our family room would be great.

Apple Green is such a happy color!

So what have you been painting?

Bamboo Sunburst Mirror

Happy Monday!  I hope you guys had a wonderful weekend.  A few weeks ago I was inspired to create a new mirror to place on the ledge shelf above our beadboard wallpapered wall in the family room.

A few years ago my parents scored some damaged bamboo shades on clearance for $4.  They gave them to me knowing I’d figure out something to do with them eventually.  Well inspiration finally hit.

The Hubster helped to cut most of the bamboo pieces… I still have a sore forearm muscle from holding the bamboo in place (and I only cut like a 1/4 of them).

This project does take some time… between the cutting and the hot gluing…

but definitely worth it for the outcome.

I scored the mirror at a garage sale for 50 cents a while back… so this mirror cost under $5, although it only cost me 50 cents!

LOVE!

For the love of… yellow and gray

Now I have to admit… I have neither yellow or gray currently in my home… but I LOVE the combo!

For the love of gray and yellow

I think it’s the contrast. The gray is calming and neutral and the yellow just screams… “I’m here.”

Check out some of the great gray and yellow pretties I found…

Family Shells

Happy Monday!  I hope you had a fabulous weekend.  If you missed my post last week about Google Friends Connect (GFC) phasing out on March 1st, you can read all about it here.  Bottom line… if you’ve been following me through GFC I’m asking you to start following me a new way.  Brent from Linky Tools (what I use to link up your projects for the Power of Paint Party) has created an awesome Linky Followers tool.  You can follow me through Linky Followers, or subscribe to receive my posts via email (on my sidebar) or through RSS feed (on my header).

Ok… onto the fun stuff!  I’m still trying to finish off my family room makeover.  I’ve got a few small projects and 2 big ones to get it finished (that are currently on the list, but you know how that changes!)

Over the weekend I worked on a sign for the ledge over the beadboard wallpaper.

A old frame wrapped in twine and shells collected by my kiddos…

love the textures and the memories and the meaning.

Perfect family room art!

Valentine’s Day Mantel

Happy Monday!

This last weekend the older 2 kiddos were busy finishing up their science fair projects, so the littlest princess and I put the final tweaks on our Valentine’s mantel.

I kept it on the simple side this year.

With my lovey lanterns

Doilies used to stencil on the mirrors…

my burlap hearts

Some Epsom salt snow…

Heart doilies strung on twine by my youngest…

and my burlap Valentine’s Day sign.

Hoping you have a fabulous week….

Adding a little Ruffle

Back in October I started working on updating our family room curtains.  I started by adding a 15” burlap stripe to the base of our espresso brown curtains.  You can read all about it here.

I liked it, but didn’t love it.  It looked too harsh and simple and needed a little softness… like a little ruffle.

I used some white double ruffled ribbon and just hot glued it where the two fabrics met.

A quick update… less than 5 minutes per curtain.

Now they pop and I love the softness the ruffled ribbon brings to the burlap.

Thanks for stopping by & have a wonderful weekend!

109th Power of Paint Party… Mirror Paint

Welcome Paint Lovers!!!

I’ve been in Valentine’s Day mode this past week.  While working on my Valentine’s Day/ Winter mantel I thought that stenciling some hearts on faux mirrors would be adorably cute… but I didn’t want hearts permanently on my mirrors.  The solution… making some washable paint for mirrors.

Here’s the so-simple recipe:

1 part Washable liquid Paint or Powdered Tempera Paint

1 part dish soap

Told ya…. super simple!

Mix it together well and then paint away.  I used a stencil brush and a doilies to create my cute hearts.

I was able to use 1 doily for about 3 hearts before it was too saturated to reuse.

Later this week I’ll be showing off the completed mantel.

So what have you been painting???
