What Makes A Room…

Hi Friends…

Today I thought it would be fun to share my TOP 10 Things that Make a Room (in no particular order).

#1  Cream’ification… it could be your crown molding, a throw pillow… but I think every room could use some white (in fact it’s my favorite color… my kiddos think that’s crazy).  I love it because it makes everything else look more amazing!

#2  Texture… one of my favorites is burlap, but there are so many options.  But texture is a great way to add depth to your room and I also think it makes a room look more lived in and comfortable.

#3  Glam… I love a little bling in my space… a little shimmer or sparkle.  It doesn’t have to be a huge piece, but it’s something that will draw your eye to it.

#4  Dark and Dreamy… something black in a space makes a statement too.  I think it grounds  a space and makes a space have a substantial feel… a feeling of importance.

#5 Architecture… maybe it’s some chunky crown molding, some board & batten or some beadboard…. but add some to your room and you’ve instantly given your room some classic character.

#6  Fab Fabrics… It’s amazing how fabric changes a space!  I love fabric on my windows and of course some pretty pillows.  Not only does fabric help to absorb the noises of your home (if you have lively ones like me) but it instantly tells the store of your style and puts the cozy factor in play.

#7  Paint… you know I couldn’t leave out paint!  There is no cheaper, quicker way to change a space than by painting the walls.  Even if you want white walls… having the right shade of white will make a big difference over your builder white.  Add a painted stencil or stripes for even more impact.

#8  Memories… I love walking into someone’s home and seeing who they are in the their accessories.  Maybe it’s shots of their kiddos playing on the beach or a bowl of shells they collected, but it’s the items that share your memories that make your home personalized.

#9  Mirror, mirror on the wall… I love mirrors!  I love the way they add light to a space.  A well placed mirror can make a huge impact in a room.

#10  Nature… bring the outdoors in!  Whether a potted plant, twigs in a vase, a bowl of shells, bamboo or framed leaves… bringing the outdoors in brings life to a room.

So… do you have anything to add to the “What Makes A Room” list?

And don’t forget to protect your beautiful possessions with house insurance. If you live in the UK, Direct Line Group buildings and contents insurance can give you a quote online’?

119th Power of Paint Party… Scallops

Welcome Paint Lovers to this week’s Power of Paint Party… a party showcasing Paint and only PAINT related projects.

I’ve got another fabulous giveaway going on this week.  PSA Essentials is giving away a custom stamp.  You can get a monogram… your blog name and theme (I got one of those… LOVE it!)… there are so many to pick from. You can enter this great giveaway HERE!

Thank you all for your input a few weeks ago when I asked for help on picking what color to paint the wall behind our entertainment center.  Doing the background of the bookshelves really helped me make a decision.  I’m hoping to share all those details later this week.

Over the weekend I was plopped on the floor of my youngest daughter’s bedroom sorting through clothes.  With warmer weather coming soon we were digging through her older sister’s hand-me-downs to see what we had.  While sitting there, surrounded by piles of clothes (I figured why not sort) I was just loving her room.  I don’t normally plop in her room… it’s running in with a basket of folded laundry for her to put away, tucking her in and saying prayers at night… but after sitting there for a couple hours I was even more sold on the paint colors and the whimsy of her room.

One of my favorite paint additions to her bedroom has to be the scalloped border I painted a few years back.

I created this cute scalloped border with the help of a paper plate.

It’s a really easy paint project!  You can read all the details at my original post HERE.

So what have you been painting?

118th Power of Paint Party… Spring Bottle

Welcome Paint Lovers… and Happy Spring!

I’ve got a great giveaway to burlapfabric.com going on this week.  You can enter here.

Last week I had an idea.  You know… one of those crazy ideas that you think just might work.   Here was my thought process… I wonder if you could hot glue a design on a glass bottle… spray paint it… then peel off the hot glue to reveal the design… kinda like etching.

Well it didn’t work exactly as I hoped…

Writing “Spring” with hot glue was easy enough.

Spray painting it all… piece of cake!

Trying to peel off the hot glue… not like I envisioned!  It seems like the thicker areas came off easier… but nothing was crisp and clean like I was hoping for.

Any paint projects not go as you planned recently?

So what have you been painting?

Using Inspiration as Your Guide

Happy Wednesday Friends…

Last month I shared with you guys the great new quiz from Glidden, Colortopia, that helps you discover the colors that you love.

This week I’ve got another great tool from Colortopia to share with you guys.  My Image Inspiration is a place for you to upload a photo that you are inspired by and that has colors you want to incorporate into your space.  It can be a photo of fabric from a pillow, a room you love, a piece of art… really anything. Once you upload it to their site the magic beings.  Once uploaded you can select the area you want to draw the colors from.  Then it will show you paint colors from your selected area… so cool!  Then you select the color you want to focus on and it will create a palette around that color.

Here’s mine…

my color inspiration

I picked a tropical beach photo… you guys know I adore the beach.  I focused in on an area where there were a variety of shades.

Check out the colors it picked.  If you saw my Power of Paint Party post last night one of those shades should stand out to you… Pebble Gray!  I painted that color on my wall before I used this tool… crazy, huh!  So of course I picked Pebble Gray.  Then on the right side you can see the palettes it created around Pebble Gray.  Super cool and fun!  I think I might need to incorporate that Teal Lake in my family room too… LOVE that color!

From the site you can take your results and print them off or share them too.

I can see using this tool to completely build and design a room around an inspiration item.  You can figure out your paint color and use the other colors on your palette for accessory and fabric choice inspiration.

Do you have a room that you need a starting point to decorate with?  What photo did you upload?  What color did you pick?

I have been sponsored by Glidden brand paint to write this post but the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

117th Power of Paint Party… Gotta Pick

Welcome Paint Lovers to this week’s Power of Paint Party… a party showcasing Paint and only PAINT related projects.

First up… I’ve got a giveaway going on this week.  I’m giving away a burlap sign to 2 lucky winners.  You can enter here.

This week I need your help.  Just before Christmas Big Bertha (our giant rear-projection TV) died.  When we moved here we had this enormous concave space in our family room… a space larger than any TV I’ve ever seen.  So we built an entertainment center around our TV using 3 shelving units from Ikea.  You can read how we designed/built it here.

Well… for Christmas we got a new slim, flat screen and we decided to move the TV to a different space in the family room… so we were left with an BIG empty space (with the 1st round of paint color now glaring at me daily).

So we decided to move one of the shelves down to create a little desk nook in the space (a brilliant idea from the Hubster).  The kiddos are LOVING this new space.  It’s become the art/homework area most coveted at the moment.

So now I’ve got a painting dilemma… what color to paint the wall behind. This pumpkin butter has to go!

Should I paint it the color of the walls in the rest of the family room… Inspiration Blue?

Or Pebble Gray?

The other colors in the room are blue, espresso brown, tans, some apple green and blacks.

I’ve got some fun plans for the back of the bookshelves which will be a darker tone.

So help me pick!!

Should it be Inspiration Blue or Pebble Gray?

So what have you been painting?
