For the Love of… Rope

It’s been a while since I’ve done a “for the love of.”  If you’re new with me, “for the love of” is simply something I came across as a décor trend that I’m lovin’ and I just have to share.

There is just something carefree… exotic… and screaming “vacation” when I see these décor items with rope.

Painting for the Master… Part Two…

Today I’m sharing with you Part Two of how I created the latest piece of art for my master bedroom gallery wall.

You can read Part One over HERE.  In part one I shared how I created the serene background layers.

Today… tree branches!

Ok… what a COOL product I used to create the tree branches.

Decoart’s Americana Writer Paint in Black.  Check it out…

It has an easy to control tipAWESOME!

I used a pencil to sketch out where the larger tree branches would go.

Then I took Decoart’s Americana Writer and traced my branch lines.

For the thicker lines I painted a second line along side and then used a 1/4” paint brush to fill in the lines…

Then using the Writer paint I just added branches… and more branches…

and kept adding branches till I got the look I wanted.

I’ve got to give a big shout-out to Mallie over at DecoArt… THANKS bunches for sending me the paint!!!  I have used DecoArt’s paint for years and I’ve always been thrilled with the results!

I hope you guys will try to paint your own paint piece of art… if you do I’d LOVE to see it!!!

Painting for the Master… Part One

In planning our master bedroom makeover, I decided I wanted one wall to be a gallery wall.  I’m working on an assortment of sentimental goodies to fill my long wall, but I decided early on that I also wanted to paint a piece of art for our bedroom.

Here is my finished painting and here is the Ballard Designs artwork that was my inspiration…

Enchanted II Giclée Print

Alrighty… let’s get started on the “HOW TO”…

{Supplies}

4 16”x20” canvases

Paint Brushes in the following sizes: 1/8” 1/4” and 1/2” and a 1” foam brush

Mallie at DecoArt sent me their amazing Americana acrylic paints in the following colors: Dried Basil Green, Celery Green, Traditional Raw Umber, Shale Green, Snow (Titanium) White, Driftwood and Cool Neutral

Benjamin Moore’s Serenata paint

Spray bottle of water

{How to}

#1… I started by giving all 4 canvases a base coat of Benjamin Moore’s Serenata paint.  This is the same color that I painted the wall of our master bedroom.  I used the foam brush to paint the base coat.

#2… Decide to stop overthinking!  I think this is the hardest step of painting.  I know my personality is very logical, but to paint this style of painting you can’t overthink!   Remember if you HATE it, you can paint over it!!!!

#3… I started with Shale Green first…

There really is no rhythm or reason to where I placed the paint… just swish it around where ever you want.  (I used the 1/2” brush).

#4… Driftwood was next…

You can see that some are kind of a cloud effect and others are just swish back and forth (I know, such technical terms).

#5… Add some Celery Green.

#6… Add some Snow White and then lightly spray the white paint and blend it with the colors around it.

#7… I did the same with Raw Umber and Cool Neutral.  I painted some of each color around the canvases and then sprayed those painted areas lightly with water.  Sometimes I would blend the whole area, other types I would just feather the outer edges into the colors around it.

#8… Then I took some of the Benjamin Moore Serenata paint (which is the base coat color) and painted, sprayed and blended some more.  I mainly focused with the blue  on any areas that seemed to harsh or dominant.  I wanted the background to have lots of layers, but to be serene.

Any questions? Smile

Tomorrow I’ll share how I did the branches… super easy!

61st Power of Paint Party… Art

Welcome Paint Lovers…

Last week when I shared about my mini office space vinyl addition, I got a few questions about the artwork above my desk.

I painted this Ballard Design knock-off on plywood a while back… so I figured the Power of Paint Party was the perfect time to share a repost.

~~~~~~~~~~~
I saw this gorgeous piece of art in the Ballard Designs catalog and thought I’d attempt to create my own little knock-off.
[image2.png]
I used a piece of plywood that was in the garage that measured about 1 1/2 x 3 feet.  I decided to keep the knotted side up to add some texture to the painting.
I gave it a coat of cheap flat spray paint (for the primer) & a coat of Rust-Oleum Heirloom White spray paint.
To add some more depth to the background I used espresso brown acrylic paint watered down.  I brushed it on the wood and after letting it sit for about a minute I wiped it off.  It left just enough “tint” for me.  You can see in this picture the different stages.  The left side is the primed and heirloom paint only, the center has the brown paint before it’s been wiped off and the right side is the “after” effect.  It helps to bring out the wood grain beautifully!
Then I took to sketching my layout…
I changed the color scheme of the paint completely to match the Pottery Barn duvet cover that was in the guest bedroom.  Here’s the duvet…
Here’s the flowers before I added the details to them.
I traced around the flowers with a small brush loaded with the espresso brown.
Now the fun twirl-things… adding the whimsy to the painting.  I used a medium size brush and some more espresso brown paint.
And I keep on twirling.  I used the small brush for some too.  I also added some creamy white streaks to the red flowers and more espresso brown streaks to the creamy white ones.
Here’s she is all finished…
I just started on a painting for our master bedroom that I’ll be sharing with you soon!
So what have you been painting?
