Headband/Ribbon Holder

Hi Friends!  We are in official countdown mode for back-to-school… 2 1/2 weeks… eek!  My kiddos can’t wait to go back, I’m thinking of all the organization, projects and back-to-school shopping I need to do in the next 2 weeks.

I started doing a little prep work by coming up with a cute way to organize my girl’s headbands and hair ribbons that seem to clutter their counter.

Cuteness!  I just love green & pink for a girl!

I took a empty hot chocolate can (large size) and decoupaged some cute scrapbook paper on it.

It holds their headbands perfectly & neatly (even better).

And the inside is filled with hair ribbons for the ponytail days.

Are you getting your household ready for back-to-school too?

Fabric Scrap Flowers…

These are one of my favorite crafts to make for all the best reasons…

  • they are super cute
  • there’s a good chance you already have all the supplies
  • they are fast to make
  • they look great on so many things

So here’s the how-to:

Step One: Cut a circle from your felt in the size you’d like your flower to be.

Step Two: Cut a long strip of fabric (burlap in this case). Mine was about 1 1/2 inches wide by about 24 inches long. Then you tie a knot on one end of your burlap.

Step Three: Glue your knotted end to the center of your felt circle.  I’ve always used hot glue, but I’d bet fabric glue would work great too.

Step Four: Basically you are twisting and gluing as you wrap around your center knot. I glued the fabric down about every 1/2 turn, so if the circle was a clock face, at 3 and 9 o’clock (hope that makes sense). So you just keep twisting the fabric and gluing till you’ve filled in your felt circle. If you run out of fabric just start another piece with a knotted end and tuck it under where you ran out and complete your circle. If you have more fabric then you need, just cut it and glue down the end.

Here’s my burlap flower. I rolled my sweater scraps for the center of this one. Love how it looks on my sweater pillow.

This one I made with the sweater scraps and rolled twine in the center.

The black one is from scraps of one of my daughter’s ruined dresses and a burlap center…

You can easily put your flower on a headband too!

I bought a 6 pack of basic headbands at Dollar Tree.

You need to cut a felt circle a little smaller than the felt circle on the base of your flower.

Glue the circle to the underside of the headband…

and then put glue on the felt of your flower base and press it onto your smaller circle (headband in the middle).

A cute headband for my littlest princess!

You can also glue a scrap flower to a barrette.

I glued a flower bead for the center of this flower.

Look at all the fun you can have with your fabric scraps!

Tulle Flowers for Blondie

I’m sure you’ve seen fabric flowers all over bloggyland.

I figured it would be a fun activity for my Blondie to do with her BFF during her birthday sleepover.

I had tulle leftover from tutu’s I had made for the girls a few years back… they were fairies for Halloween.

I had the girls pick their colors… 2 for each flower ( you could do any combination).  Then they cut circles.

I found it easiest to fold the tulle so that when they cut a circle they were really cutting 4 big circles or 6 of the smaller circles in one cut.

Then I took the circles and held them over a candle flame and quickly turned the tulle circles. (I discovered that I could hold 2 tulle circles together and it worked perfectly ~ cutting the time in 1/2).   Start with your tulle about 2 inches away and then move it closer if you need to.  I found that moving it quickly was the key!

The tulle will shrink and the edges will turn up.

Once all the tulle has been curled you stack them.

The girls picked out a large bead (from Blondie’s stash) for the center.

I used a needle and thread to hold it all together.

Then I used a “cooler” hot glue gun to adhere the tulle flower to a hairclip.

I think they turned out pretty cute!

The girls loved wearing them to church the next day too.

Easy Girl’s Bow Holder and I WON!

If you’ve been around my blog for a while you know that I love making hair bows for my girls…. in the next few days I’ll post a Valentine’s Day hair bow… once my creative brain comes up with an idea… come on brain!

So… I thought I’d show you a very easy hair bow holder you can create.

I bought the wooden letter at either Wal-Mart or Michael’s… it’s been a few years… I know both carry them though.

Cover the letter in acrylic paint, in the color of your choice.  I kept mine solid colored, but you could easily paint stripes or polka-dots.  Then just staple the ribbon to the back of the wooden letter.  I used a staple gun, but I’m sure hammering a thick staple in would work too.

The wooden letters I purchased had a notch in the back, so they were simple to hang.

Another cute option would be to decoupage some cute scrapbook paper on your wooden letter.  These are letters from my youngest daughter’s room.  I painted them first and then just used Mod-Podge to adhere the paper to the letters.

So… I won this so cute burlap crown pillow!
