I’m excited to be partnering with Unilever in this post to bring awareness to child hunger and Project Sunlight.
Right after graduating high school I had the opportunity to travel down to Guatemala with a group from my church. We were going down to help build homes for widows who’s homes had been destroyed and their husbands killed by guerrilla groups. On our way traveling out to the villages we stopped at a dump on the outskirts of the city. The smell was overwhelming as we got off the bus. There were little kids everywhere digging through the trash trying to find anything to eat. My heart felt overwhelmed! I wanted to scoop them all up and take them home.
Now as a mom with three kiddos my heart breaks anytime I see a child in pain. The thought of a child going without food just isn’t acceptable in my mind. When you think of children starving it’s easy for our minds to go to third world countries, but right here in America there are 16 million children struggling with hunger – that’s the population of Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia and Chicago combined. Unbelievable!!!
Right now 1 in 5 children is unaware where their next meal is coming from, one of these children could be your neighbor or even your son or daughter’s best friend.
I’m happy to be partnering with Unilever Project Sunlight to help bring awareness to this important issue. We want to inspire people across America to “Share A Meal to Help Turn the Tables on Child Hunger in America.”
Over the past years I think every person in America has either personally been affected by the economic recession or you know someone close to you who was. My husband was laid off. We know personally how stressful those times can be. Here’s a video that really opened my eyes.
I encourage you to watch and share this video. It’s only a few minutes long and really gives you a glimpse at those around us who are in need.
Next week I’ll be back sharing how my family is partnering and giving you some ways you can help too. For more information you can check out the Project Sunlight site.
Thanks for stopping by friends!
