141st Power of Paint Party… Burlap Painted Leaf Art

Thanks for Sharing!

Welcome Paint Lovers to this week’s Power of Paint Party… a party about PAINT and only PAINT!  Come check out all the awesome paint projects and link up your great paint inspiration too.

So I’m in fall prep mode.  If you missed my post yesterday, I’m getting ready for the Countdown to Fall party (read here to learn more and see some exciting changes this year).

I’m slowing switching out items on my mantel to move from summer to fall.  Over the weekend I thought of a fun piece of burlap art to create.

I made this cute painted leaf on burlap using freezer paper.

I used an image I created in Photoshop.  If you want a copy of it for yourself you can grab it here.

I layered the leaf image on top of the freezer paper and used an x-acto blade to cut it out.  I’ve got afull tutorial here on how I do this.

Then I ironed the cut-out leaf onto the burlap.  (Remember to always have the shiny side of the freezer paper facing down).

I used acrylic fabric paint to create my cute leaf… an espresso brown first and then I used a glittered orange right afterwards (before it was dry) to give it a little sparkle.

I let mine dry about 30 minutes and then peel off the freezer paper – the best part!

Cute addition to the mantel…

So what have you been painting?

DIY Show Off Fall Festival Party

  1. What a beautiful, well organised blog. I’m impressed AND following now. If I can figure out how to add my paint project I will but in the meantime – I’ve got some reading to catch up on. So good to have found you. Blessings, Tia

  2. Love it! And I’d love to give it a try. Really stupid question alert……are freezer paper and wax paper the same thing?

  3. That is such a cute project! Just my style 😉 I think I might be able to swing something like that!! I pinned it so I can look at it again later. It’s just sweet.

  4. Thanks so much for hosting another great party – will be back later to check out all the links!
Love the maple leaf ( being Canadian and all, lol ) Definitely have to try that.

  5. Your leaf stencil came out great! I recently used freezer paper to stencil a monogram and it worked great….I love that method! Thanks so much for hosting POPP!
