Building a Christmas Tree and a $500 Home Depot Giveaway

Thanks for Sharing!

Happy  Weekend Friends!

Post and giveaway sponsored by The Home Depot, but all opinions are my own. Please see below for additional disclosure.

Last Saturday I had the privilege of flying out to gorgeous Colorado for The Home Depot #DIYWorkshop.  We were teaching people how to build this cute wooden Christmas tree.

Home Depot #DIYWorkshop 4

It was a gorgeous, sunny day in Arvada, Colorado so they were able to hold the #DIYWorkshop outside.

The Home Depot was prepped for the day with directions for each person.

Home Depot #DIYWorkshop 2

It was so great to help people use power tools for the first time.  The Home Depot #DIYWorkshop is a great place to learn new skills or strengthen ones you already have.

Watching people admire the tree they cut out is so much fun!

Home Depot #DIYWorkshop 3

If you’ve never been to a #DIYWorkshop at The Home Depot I strongly encourage you to check them out.  The #DIYWorkshops are free workshops for do-it-yourselfers of all ages and experience levels.

It’s a great way to challenge and inform yourself on how to take on more DIY projects in your home.

I made one of these cute trees before I headed off to Colorado last week.

I went for a more natural look staining the wood.  You can learn how to build your own Holiday Wood Yard Christmas Tree here.

  1. I have not been to one but I’ve always wanted to go as I love making things. I don’t really have any ideas of what I’d like to learn though… this Christmas tree decoration is super cute though!

  2. I haven’t been to the grown up DIY workshops there but I have gone to a few of the kids ones. They are SO much fun and both my girls LOVE them. I’m hoping my local HD has one of the JOY sign workshops so I can go to that. Thanks for the chance to win 🙂

  3. I haven’t been to a #DIYworkshop. I would love one that centered on basic home maintenance items like recaulking a bathtub, installing blinds, etc. I have tons of little things I would love to cross of my list but I’m intimidated by them.

  4. I have never been to Home Depot for a workshop, but I am in and out of there on a weekly basis….sometimes more!! I LOVE their area rugs!
Thank you so much for allowing me to enter your drawing.
    Blessings,
    J

  5. I did a diy painting workshop with Martha Stewart decorative paints a couple years ago and would love to take a workshop like the one with the Christmas tree, but our HD doesn’t offer many workshops. Hope that changes!

  6. I have not, but I would love to! Scroll saws and things like that are an area I need to learn more about for sure. Thank you so much for a wonderful giveaway!!

    xoxo, Tanya

  7. Maryann,
I came across your twitter post on the Home Depot Giveaway. Well I am so excited because, on Nov. 20 I am making the Joy sign at our local Home Depot. It is my first Workshop with them and I can’t wait. Your Christmas Tree turned out great. I will be sharing mine on my blog soon.
    Make it a Creative Day,
    Karen Marie

  8. I would love to go to one But I am a mom of 4 kids diffrent ages so some are too young to do it some are not But if i had a chance to get a babysitter ( which is rare) We have always wanted to go!

  9. I have not been to a workshop as there is no Home Depot close to us. A giftcard would be great motivation to visit the next city over where there is a HomeDepot. We’ve done the Lowe’s workshops, but they are just for kids. It would be cool to have workshops for adults to pick up skills and gain a sense of mastery.

  10. I’ve only ever been to the children’s workshops the first Saturday of each month. I would love to go to a #DIYWorkshop about tiling/grouting!

  11. I have been to one and it was a painting class. But I would love to attend a class like what you did. Cutting wood. Something about learning to use power tools is like a rush. LOL, I got to learn.

  12. I have been to some of the work shops with my friend, Pam. We go to the one in Yulee Florida. The staff ROCKS! We have a lot of fun and learn something different each time. I love, love, love going!

  13. I have never attended their workshops but would like to learn how to handle power tools thanks..hopefully this isn’t a duplicate

  14. I haven’t attended any workshops. I would like to know how to use power tools with confidence
    thanks for the giveaway

  15. I haven’t done a workshop at Home Depot, but I grew up with my dad teaching me all about power tools and building, for which I am forever grateful!

  16. I haven’t yet but I’m going to make time for one. I’d like to learn anything. I want to gain more experience around professionals.

  17. I haven’t been to a weekend DIY workshop, I’ll have to check and see what is on the schedule next time I’m at Home Depot. Thanks for the chance to win $500 Home Depot gift card, it would help with new bathroom I’m tackling.

  18. Must.Do.This! Love how it looks festive both during the day and night! Thanks for the chance to win a $500 Home Depot gift card. I just started making wood crafts this holiday season, and this would help me pick up much needed supplies! Happy Holidays!

  19. I have not been to one before, but now that we’re buying our first house, I need to look into them!

  20. I have not attended one of these workshops, if I did, I would love to learn just about anything since I am not really handy with power tools.

  21. I haven’t been to a weekend DIY workshop, but I do go every month to our local Home Depot’s Do-It-Herself workshops. They are so wonderful. I look forward to them every month. Attending these workshops has given me the courage to actually use power tools (something that I was intimidated to do before). Thanks for the chance to win such a great prize!

  22. I have thought about going to some of the Home Depot workshops but still haven’t done it. You are so smart! I can use many power tools but, would you believe, I purchased a jigsaw 3 years ago and still haven’t used it the first time?! So pathetic! The Christmas tree project is a great one Maryann.

  23. I have never been to a DIY workshop at home depot but I’d like to go to one, definitely.. maybe one on painting techniques/ideas if they offer that.

  24. I didn’t realize that Home Depot had workshops for adults. All I ever notice is the ones advertised for kids to build birdhouses and stuff like that. I’ll have to check out and see what ones they have next time I’m at HD.

  25. I am scheduled for the Create a Holiday Marquee class on the 20th of November and am really excited about it. I am a beginner DIYer that loves to build things and really want to know how to use a jigsaw. Ho Ho Ho 🙂

  26. What a wonderful opportunity! I will definitely have to check that out and see whay is available at my local Home Depot. This project has me thinking I could make a smaller one of these with my scroll saw. That would be a quick fun project that could make a great gift too!

  27. I have never been to a HD Workshop.. I don’t think they have them near me! 🙁 I would love to go and learn about making jigs for different things! I always have trouble thinking those up on my own.

  28. I have taken my grandson to a couple workshops and we loved them. Didn’t realize I could learn how to make great things like this so I will be checking out my local Home Depot schedule.

  29. I live in Denver and had wanted to come to your workshop in Arvada last weekend – unfortunately, something came up. But I do want to go to one of the DIY workshops and get comfortable with power tools.
