Burlap Leaf Owl Pillow

Hello friends! My name is Steph and I blog at The Silly Pearl, where I write about crafts, home, and making memories with my husband and 8 year old twin girls. Thank you Maryann for having me Domestically Speaking today as part of your Burlap Lover’s Series! Today I’m sharing how to make this no-sew owl pillow made from burlap leaves. It’s a super quick Fall craft that’s fun to make as well. Here’s how!

Burlap Leaf Pillow - The Silly Pearl for Domestically Speaking

Supplies

  • Burlap leaves, either ready-made or make your own
  • Craft felt in the same color as the burlap, plus more for the eyes and beak
  • Hot glue
  • Scissors
  • Square pillow case and pillow insert

Directions

I found some faux leaf branches at a home store recently and removed the leaves from them to use for this craft (the branches were used in another craft!). You can also find burlap leaves in packages, or you can make your own. To make your own, cut out the leaf shapes in burlap fabric, tracing around a template (such as actual leaves), and after cut them out, seal the edges by brushing on some decoupage glue or fabric stiffener. Each type of leaf I used came in a large size (about 4.5 inches long) and a small size (about 3.5 inches long)..

Basically, I’ll be forming different parts of the owl with the leaves, which I’ll glue onto pieces of felt. Then, all of those parts will be glued onto the pillow form. First, I made the wings. I cut an oval piece of felt and arranged my small leaves onto it, fanning them out to form the wing.

For the chest, I cut out a felt rectangle, and glued rows of the beige burlap leaves starting from the bottom.

Now for the eyes. First, I arranged some leaves in a fan formation glued to a piece of felt in the back.

Then I cut out some felt circles to make the eyes, which I glued on to the leaves. For the beak, I simply glued an orange triangle onto a small leaf.

All that’s left is to glue all of the pieces to a pillow case! If you like, you can add more leaves as necessary, to fluff out your owl a little bit more or to fill in any holes.

Insert your pillow form and you’re done! I love that face! While my pillow is no-sew, you could definitely use your sewing machine and add some fun stitches. You could also use different colors of burlap…there are so many colors available these days! I can also see adding some glitter to the leaves. This owl would also be cute as wall art, or use smaller leaves and glue them to a pumpkin to make a pumpkin owl!

Hope you’ll come on by The Silly Pearl for more Fall crafts! For example, my burlap owl pillow is pictured with my Chalk Painted Pom Pom Trimmed Pumpkins.

And you’ll see what I did with some of my leftover branches on a post coming soon to the Bltisy.com blog, where I also write. Recently on their blog, I posted these Black Cat Shoe Clips for Halloween.

This is the cutest owl I’ve seen! It’s super creative. My sister wants to make one just on a canvas to frame for the mantle. Thanks again for more awesomeness!

That owl is just the cutest! It would be a great weekend craft to make with my daughters since it doesn’t require any sewing. Thanks for sharing!
