Wooden California Clock | Thrift Store Makeover
Friends it’s time for our monthly Thrift Store Decor. This month I found a fun one, actually Mr. DS spotted this one. We all know states are HOT right now. I haven’t jumped on that bandwagon but when we found this California wooden clock it was just begging for a makeover. I think the California shape was cut out by some awesome parent, probably for some 4th grade history project. I gave it a little love and came up with this.
I kind of gave it a beachy, driftwood, California vibe.
Here’s the before in all it’s glory. What a labor of love to cut California out! I pulled off the label stickers, gave it a good cleaning and a light sanding before starting the makeover.

I used Rust-oleum’s Weathered Gray Stain – which I LOVE! I used a sock and just rubbed on a little, let it sit a couple minutes and wiped off the excess. I have been a paint-loving girl for years now, but lately stain has been my thing!
Then I dry brushed some white acrylic paint on top – adding white details to the cracks and edges. I’m always just in awe of how a little paint can totally change the feel of a room or a project.
I put it up on gallery wall for the moment, but I think it’s going to find a home in my office soon.
I’m loving my California makeover!

Maryann, what a unique and creative piece! Your California clock could very well become a family heirloom along the lines of a traditional cuckoo clock!

Isn’t it amazing what a little love and paint can do. Love your state clock!
I snatch up anything with California on it, you know being that original Valley Girl that I am. I pass on anything my original Valley Girl body has to fit into however!
