Are you able to enjoy your outdoor spaces yet?  We’ve been having some beautiful spring weather and some downright HOT, we’re not ready for summer weather too.  Once the weather starts to warm it’s time to get those outdoor spaces ready.  Creating a beautiful painted outdoor rug is a great addition to your outdoor space.  Once the weather starts to warm it’s time to get those outdoor spaces ready. Creating a beautiful painted outdoor rug is a great addition to your outdoor space. Well, when ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape and The Home Depot asked me to participate in their, “Get It, Got It, Go”  summer blog-hop.

I knew this project would be perfect! This year’s blog-hop is being hosted by Kate at Centsational Girl, so be sure to check out the other fabulous projects here: Get It, Got It, Go

Painted Outdoor Rug

With just a few hours of work you can have this fun project completed!

Painted Outdoor Rug Tutorial

I started off with a rug that already had somewhat of a diamond pattern going, which meant taping it off would be SO much easier.

I went to Home Depot and picked up some ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape Original Multi-Use 2090 Painter’s Tape… love this stuff!

So I laid out my tape pressing it down firmly onto the rug.

Once my design was finished it was time to paint… one of my favorite things!

I decided to go with blue, green and white… but you obviously could pick whatever colors you love!

I used outdoor acrylic paints for this project, since the current plan is to have it on our outdoor patio, although I’m thinking it would be super cute in our kitchen nook too!

I used a stencil brush to pounce (blotting up and down motion) near the tape line and then brushed on the paint to fill in the center of the diamonds.

You can see I put a little dab of tape in the sections I didn’t want to paint to make sure I didn’t mess up.

I started with all the blue diamonds and then went onto white, then green.

Once I was finished with the final color I let it dry for about 30 minutes and then gently pulled off the painter’s tape.

So fun and beachy!

Do the colors bleed or wash out completely when it rains? Great idea if the weather doesn’t mess it up. Love the colors!

Gwen I used outdoor acrylic paints (sometimes they are labeled at pottery paint)… they are designed to withstand the outdoors. So far… so good 🙂
