DIY Rustic Chalkboard for a Wedding
Happy Sunday friends! Today I’ve got a fun project that I recently made for my brother-in-laws’ wedding last week. Their wedding theme was Rustic… so a cute rustic chalkboard was in order!
DIY Rustic Chalkboard
This chalkboard was a pretty simple DIY project. It’s build with 4” wide boards. I made it a 2’x3’, but you could make yours any size.
Let’s get to the details (affiliate links included for your convenience, read more here)
DIY Rustic Chalkboard Supply List:
- 4″ wide pine board
- miter saw
- staple gun
- gray craft paint
- stain
- metal brackets
- chalkboard paint
Tutorial:
After cutting my boards with a miter saw I pieced them together.
To hold them together I used a staple gun on the corners and then the chalkboard backing helped to reinforce it.
I started the finish by giving the wood a coat of some watered down gray acrylic paint.
Then I finished it off with some stain.
I used the aging metal technique that I used on a stainless steel bucket for the brackets… letting them soak overnight.
It aged them beautiful and added the perfect rustic detail!
They used the chalkboard at the entrance of their reception to let everyone know about their photo booth guest book.
It was fun laying out all the wording and writing up the fonts. I used a chalk marker.
An easy DIY project if you have the necessary tools.
Here’s more info on how I aged stainless steel with vinegar….
Thanks for stopping by friends… enjoy the rest of your weekend!
What did you use for your chalkboard backing?
I found chalkboard project board at Lowes – it’s boards already coated with chalkboard paint.
I love your rustic chalkboard, and was wondering what color/brand stain you used?
Thank you!
