Farmhouse Craft Organizer
I’m so excited it’s thrift store time again and that I can share this Farmhouse Craft Organizer with you. After months of no thrift store shopping, I’m thrilled that thrift stores are open! This month I made over a cute wooden organizer and gave it some farmhouse appeal.
Here’s what I started with. It is very sturdy and heavy, definitely a quality piece, so I figured I could bring it back to life.
I started by giving the wooden organizer a good cleaning. I decided to use milk paint on it, so no need to sand.
Storage Makeover Supply List
- thrift store wooden storage piece
- baby wipes or spray cleaner
- milk paint (I used this color)
- chippy paint brushes
How to Milk Paint
Using milk paint is so easy. It’s similar to how you use chalk paint. Milk paint is thinner though, so you will most likely need two coats.
Here is how it looked after the first coat. If you want to see that much wood grain, then you’d stop here. I wanted only a little wood grain to show through, so I gave it a second coat of the milk paint.
I love how the wood knob pops now! I left the indention details with the wood, giving it a cute striped look, with no extra work.
I changed out the dowel to a round, smaller size. The original piece came with a square, wooden bar, but it didn’t work for my twine.
Now make sure to check out what the rest of the thrift store team has made over this month.

Maryann,
This is so clever! It’s a great way to keep twine and ribbon handy and organized. Love the color!
It looks so much happier now! Love the color.
Super cute! And I agree with Gail- I wonder what it was meant for originally!! I also haven’t gone thrifting yet, even though mine have been open for a few weeks now. But I’ve been in MAJOR pre-move purge mode, LOL.
Such a cute makeover and such a handy use for twine. Great job!
Love the color you used on that! Now it’s cute AND useful!
I haven’t gotten up the nerve to go thrifting yet, although I did drop off a van load of stuff shortly after they opened up. I went through a whole organizing phase for the first few weeks of quarantine and then the bags of stuff just sat here for a few weeks. I might venture out this weekend and see what new treasures I can find!

Do you know what this was originally? I’ve never seen anything like it. I love the knew look of your craft organizer! Our thrift stores aren’t suppose to be open yet. Although a friend told me one of our peddler malls was open yesterday. I’m still sticking pretty close to home for now.
