FINALLY chalkboarding!

Thanks for Sharing!

Update… I’m joining Cheri’s Party!

I’ve been searching high & low in thrift shops and yard sales for something ~ anything ~ to create into a lovely chalkboard.

Last Friday I saw a garage sale sign on the way home from dropping the older kiddos off at school.  So we (me and my Jujube) stopped by and I was so thankful we did.  I found this picture…

I don’t really care for the picture, but I LOVE the chunky frame ~ especially for $2.  We took it home and cleaned it off.

Then it went out back to be primed.  One coat of 97 cent flat white spray paint.

Then one coat of Heirloom White spray paint.  Maybe you noticed… I didn’t tape of the glass.  I figured it was going to get enough chalkboard coats to mask any paint.

Chalkboard paint time… 3 coats later…

I liked the chalkboard, but I wanted to love it.  I fell in LOVE with Miss Mustard Seed’s Chalkboard desk.  Did you see it?  I adored her scroll work around the chalkboard she had painted on the desk top (brilliant), so I decided to try to do the same around the edges of mine.

What do you think?

It’s going to be hung in the family room where I’ll be putting our Verse of the Week on it.

I’m still working on hanging my Ballard’ish painting & I’m working on a great, CHEAP botanical collection… can’t wait to show you!

I’m joining The Shabby Chic Cottage for Transformation Thursday ~ FUN!

  1. Did you just paint the glass w/ chalk board paint? If so, is there any prep work needed for the glass or do you just paint it w/ the coats? You have inspired me with this project but I haven't worked with chalkboard paints so much. Also, did you use chalk board paint in a can or spray paint? Thanks so much for all of your great projects! Love your blog!!!!

  6. I love it! It's great…cutest chalkboard I've seen. The scrollwork you added makes all the difference. How did you do that?
