Garage Sports Organization with Crates plus a Giveaway!

Thanks for Sharing!

Thank you Crates and Pallet for sponsoring this post and giveaway!  As always all opinions expressed are those of Domestically Speaking.  We were in need of  some Garage Sports Organization. We are a sport’s family!  My husband plays on a couple softball teams, my son is playing summer basketball and my oldest daughter is on the All-Star Softball team plus another softball team.  So needless to say we have sports gear… lots of sport’s gear!  We are about 1 month away from school starting and with the start of school comes the start of fall sports.  Our sport’s gear was needing some organizing!

Did you know that you can find awesome crates at Home Depot?  Yep, Crates and Pallet have their products available at Home Depot (mostly online).  You now can find their large crate in all The Home Depot stores!  These awesome crates makes creating garage storage SUPER easy!

We started by laying out the portion you see here in this photo.

We laid them out on the ground and attached them to each other using a nailer.

In this section we used:

Once they were attached to each other we used wood screws and attached it to the studs.

We decided to run a 2 x 4 along the bottom for two reasons.. first to add some extra support once all those crates were full and second to support the two 18 in. x 9.5 in. Natural Pine Tall Wall Crates.  Instead of them hugging the wall we wanted them to protrude out so they could hold equipment easier.  We used smaller wood screws to attach the tall wall crates to the x-large crates along the side and we also attached them to the 2×4’s underneath it.

Then we added two 18 in. x 15 in. x 9.25 in. Vegetable Wood Crates to the center to hold the basketballs and footballs.

Then we filled them in.

Plenty of room for everything.  I added some hooks along the 2 x 4’s for holding chairs, tennis rackets, etc.

We are loving our functional Garage Sports Organization!  Once we had a layout we were able to put it together pretty quick… it’s an easy afternoon project.

  1. Your crates look so much more organised than mine!
My apartment looks like a mess because of all my sports gear. I have them all over the place, my running shoes in the entry room, my soccer ball is on the couch, I regularly throw it against the wall while I am watching television 🙂 I will look into organising my stuff with crates like you do.

  2. Wow superb.

Empty boxes works for my child’s. As they are too little and haven’t a lot of toys they are happy with it. I’m planning to make this kind of stuff when they will grow up.

    Thanks for sharing your post.

  3. My little son want this type self to storage his playing stuffs. He mostly like to play softball and soccer. I hope he will be a great softball player in future.

  4. My garage is gigantic unorganized mess. I know I should invest in garage shelving but it’s just so expensive. I was giddy to find this affordable and cute way to organize garage stuff. It’s good to know that you used two by four’s as a support system for all of the crates on the wall. Thank you for sharing this inspiring project!

  5. I would use them for a unique bookcase for my craft room. I have tons of craft books and nowhere to put them!

  6. I would use the crates to make storage in my craft room for paints, brushes, patterns, books etc. thank you for the chance to win

  7. Our guest room closet serves as my craft room, etsy store front and shipping depot. I would like to create some pretty organization in there.

  8. That is a very clever idea. I currently have our equipment on wire shelves and it is a constant battle keeping it organized.
