Navy Coral Painted Tray

Thanks for Sharing!

It’s thrift store time and this month I’ve got a cute Navy Coral Painted Tray to share with you! I love taking thrift store items and giving them new life. I found a monkeypod tray with a cute design, it just needs some new life. I love the coastal vibe, and my home has touches of that beachy decor throughout the year, so I was inspired to make something with that beachy feel to chase away my winter blues.

I just love how this nautical tray turned out!!! It was super easy to make too. Let me show you what I started with first.

I got this cute tray for only $1 on sale at the Goodwill… score!!! Let me tell you how I transformed this worn thrift store tray.

Creating a Navy Coral Tray

I started by giving the tray a good cleaning. Then I used my blue paint to paint the base of the tray. I just free-handed it, but if you’re more comfortable with using painter’s tape – go for it!

Painting the base of the tray blue.

I let the first coat dry for about an hour and then gave the same area a second coat.

Once the second coat was dry, I took a sketch of coral that I printed out and taped it to the tray with painter’s tape.

Using a pen to create trace lines on the tray.

I like to use a sharp pencil or a pen to create tracing lines. I just went over the lines on the paper with the pen, pressing down firmly so the wood below would be indented.

Then it was time to paint! I used a small paintbrush and white acrylic paint and went over the indention lines.

I think it turned out pretty cute!

I’m sure where this cute tray will go, but I’m thinking about hanging it on the wall in our downstairs bathroom. I will make great wall art too.

  1. Maryann,

What a deal on your tray. You really did a fabulous makeover on it. Great tip about tracing the design. I can’t paint a lick!

I love the idea of hanging it, as it can always be grabbed off the wall and put to good use!
