Pallet Sign

I think it’s been almost a year since I put up my galvanized metal “HOME” sign and almost immediately after I hung the letters I knew I wanted to add another sign to the space… one that said “Heart of the… Home.”  So when my brother offered a bunch of pallets I knew I it was time for a little DIY and I put together this easy Pallet Sign.

Make Your Own Pallet Sign Heart of the Home

DIY Pallet Sign Supply List:  (affiliate links included for your convenience – you can read more info here)

  • pallets (it took us 2-3 to find good boards)
  • circular saw
  • nailer
  • sander
  • acrylic paint
  • foam brush

We decided to alternate between the bigger and the smaller pallet planks.

DIY Pallet Sign for your Kitchen

We took two smaller pallet planks and cut them about 2 inches shorter than the height of the sign.  Then we flipped the sign over (so the side you want is facing down) and placed the shorter pieces you just cut about 2 inches in from the right and left sides and used the nailer to attach the piece to each piece of pallet wood.  (So the 2 attachment pieces are running vertical – these are the pieces that hold it all together).

Easy Pallet SignThen use the circular saw to make sure your left and right sides are even – trimming off any overhang.  Then I flipped it over and gave it a light sanding.

Then came the painting fun!  I started by using a pencil and lightly marker the heart and where I wanted the words.  Then I used a foam brush and acrylic paint and painted it.

I’ve always wanted to make my own pallet sign, this is awesome! The process sounds so simple, and there’s not that many materials. I’ll have to try this!

Your decision to alternate between the bigger and smaller planks was an interesting one. The final result was quite nice as well.

I am impressed that pallets are able to be used for so many purposes. I am glad to know helpful tools that you can use with your pallets, such as a sander. Finding pallets in different sizes would definitely make completing projects that need a specific size much easier.
