Rustic Wood Painted Christmas Ornaments
Today I’ve got some Rustic Wood Painted Christmas Ornaments to share with you. These were fun to make with my oldest daughter and because it’s full of rustic charm they don’t have to be perfect. Wood slice ornaments make a great gift too.

Materials You’ll Need:
Supplies Needed {affiliate links included for your convenience, more details here)
- birch wood slices You can find these at craft stores or online. Alternatively, if you have a fallen tree branch, carefully slice it into rounds.
- drill
- baker’s twine You can use colored or neutral twine. You could use thin ribbon if you prefer.
- acrylic paint Acrylic paints work great for this project. Ensure you have a variety of colors for your designs.
- paint brushes Get a selection of sizes for different details.
- paint pen This makes for for easy writing on the wood slices
Step-by-Step Guide:
Prepare the Wood Slices:
I start off by drilling holes in each of my slices of wood.

Make sure the hole isn’t too near the edge – you don’t want it to split.
Attach a Hanger:

Then I added some red and white baker’s twine through the hole. If you wrap some tape around one of the ends of the baker’s twine it will go through the hole much easier.
Design Your Ornament:
If you want, you can sketch out your chosen Christmas designs lightly with a pencil. This could be classic symbols like snowflakes, a reindeer, a Christmas tree, a snowman, or anything you like.

Paint Your Designs:
Then my daughter and I had some fun painting. We created a Christmas tree with some twinkling white lights. We started with the greenery and then added little white dots to create the lights.

A simple snowflake ornament is just white paint and drawing lines. The key is a small amount of paint as your create your ornaments.
A Let it Snow (made with a paint pen) and fun little snowman.

I love how these DIY Wood Slice Ornaments turned out. I love the knots and the outer bark that shows on the slices. It’s a great addition to your Christmas decor. This Christmas craft can be great to get he kids involved with. The younger kids can use the paint markers. I hope you try your hand at wood slice Christmas ornaments.
