Updating the Windows with Natural Woven Wood Shades

Thanks for Sharing!

I’m so excited to share with you guys my latest update in our family room, kitchen and dining nook!!!!  When we moved into our home every window had either no window treatment or the cheapest mini blinds known to man.  I’ve been on a mission to update our window treatments.  The latest rooms I’ve been focusing on has been mainly our kitchen which flows into our family room and kitchen nook.    So when I had the opportunity to work with Blinds.com I was thrilled!

Let me show you our family room before…

Here you can see our cheap mini blinds and if you look on the far right you can see one recently snapped (while one of the kiddos was pulling it up).

Not doing much for the room!

Here’s our family room with the gorgeous updated natural woven wood blinds.

Gorgeous woven wood shades, right!

Can I tell you how much I LOVE them!

They are beautiful light filtering matchstick blinds.

I love how they let our room still flood with light.

Those gorgeous gray curtains are from HomeGoods.

I updated our curtains to go with our gray sectional couch we recently purchased.

Beautiful Bamboo Blinds in the Kitchen Nook Before

Here’s what we had going on in our kitchen nook before.  It was a DIY shade project that was much better in my head than in reality.  The burlap covered roller shades were just too heavy to go up and down.

Here they are with the new woven wood shades…

Our window above the kitchen sink got one too.

This whole process was so great!  I can tell you that Blinds.com was amazing to work with.  Joshua was my contact person.  I emailed him with some of the items I was loving and he  immediately shipped me samples of the ones I wanted to see plus a few others he thought I would love.

Let me tell you it was tough picking!  They were all gorgeous.  They have many bamboo natural woven wood blinds.

I ended up going with their Designer Woven Wood Shades in La Tortuga Mahogany.

I received my custom shades within a few weeks and then the really fun began.  Putting up their shades was a breeze.  The only one I needed an extra pair of hands for was a long window in the family room.  Once you’ve done one you can easily install one in under 10 minutes.

Joshua followed up with me making sure I wasn’t having an issues hanging them… great customer service!

Here’s one last look at our family room now….

I’ve got some more family plans for this room… changes to the beadboard wallpaper wall… some more décor pieces, new side tables (fun diy in the planning stages)… so stay tuned!

Thanks for stopping by!

I was given my gorgeous new shades by Blinds.com but all opinion is my own.  I truly LOVED my experience with them.

  1. Hi Maryann,
I came across your blog from your review on your bamboo shades from blinds.com. I love the look of your new shades. After many years in our house we are finally ready to buy some. I had a question about the color. It looks like the La Tortuga Mahogany appears pretty dark on the sample on the website, but in your home they look much lighter. I ordered a bunch of samples and am leaning towards the lighter ones, but really like how yours turned out. I was just wondering if they appear lighter than the website? Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Kathleen, I would say they do look darker on the website, but I think that’s partially because of the sunlight streaming in from behind on my photos. You get a lot of beautiful, filtered light through the blinds I picked.

  2. hi, got here from pinterest. just wondering what are the dimensions of the blinds for your large window – did you do one big blind, or couple a few smaller ones? do you find raising and lowering them to be difficult (if one big blind, given the weight?) thanks!

    1. Hi Wendy – It’s just one big blind on our large window and it’s 6 feet long. It’s actually really easy to raise up and down – which I love!
