110th Power of Paint Party… Science Boards

Welcome Paint Lovers!!!

Last weekend was all about science fair projects in our house.  Anyone else been knee-high in science boards, experiments, notebooks and construction paper?  In our school district here in So. Cal. it’s a requirement for 4th & 5th graders… and guess what, I’ve got a 4th & 5th grader.

So as we prepped to assembly it all the Hubster suggested we paint the background of their science boards this year instead of putting down wrapping paper (like we did last year)or construction paper.

So that’s what we did… and guess what… I didn’t even paint them… even better!

Hopefully I’ll get to some more exciting painting this week.

So what have you been painting???

108th Power of Paint Party: Anatomy of my Chairs

Welcome Paint Lovers!!!

My goal for last week was to get our kitchen table and chairs functional before the kiddos went back to school.  Weeks ago I started by removing the white paint from my table top and staining it a deep espresso brown and then moved onto painting our chairs.

You can read about the homemade chalk paint recipe I used on the chairs here.

To finish them off I used some wax, but I couldn’t decide if I wanted to give them a light sanding.  I’m sure I’ll distress them and beat my kiddos to it.

I recovered the chair seats with a canvas drop cloth (cheap, durable and neutral).

I’m working on a little window makeover in the space & then I’ll show it to you all together.

When I originally scored them FREE on Craigslist years ago they were a light honey-stained wood…

then they went through a black phase…

and now they’re feeling a little blue…

Who knows how they’ll feel in another 2 years.

So what have you been painting???  Anything in these shades?

107th Power of Paint Party… More Color Trends for 2012

Welcome Paint Lovers!

I hope you had a wonderful New Year’s Eve & that your new year is coming along swimmingly!

I’ve been having a fun time relaxing, organizing and planning out projects.  I even got to a little painting today – wahoo!

While vegging on my computer I’ve had a fun time checking out more of the 2012 Color Trends for 2012.  If you missed my post about Pantone’s color choice for 2012 you can check it out here.

If you’ve got painting in your future for 2012 maybe you’ll find some inspiration too.

Benjamin Moore’s Top Pick for 2012 is Wythe Blue.

wythe blue - bm

I gotta say I LOVE this shade of blue.  It reminds me of the shade we did in our master bedroom last year.

Behr’s top picks are a mix of vibrant and calming shades.  Here are a few from their palettes.

Sherwin Williams showcases neutrals, reds, blues and greens for 2012.  Here are a few of the ones that popped out at me.  You can see all of them here.

So what do you think?  They seem like a lot of the same tones as last years trends, just deeper and brighter.

So what have you been painting???  Anything in these shades?
