Best Oatmeal Apple Crisp
This past weekend brought fall weather to So. California… it’s been glorious. Highs in the 60’s and 70’s and lows down to the 30’s. I’m sure next week we’ll get a heat wave, but for now I’m loving my fall moment.
Yesterday was my husband’s birthday and his dessert request was Oatmeal Apple Crisp. This is always a fall favorite in our family. We live only about 30 minutes from Oak Glen, which is a cute, quaint apple-pickin’ town, so making apple dishes is a regular part of the autumn traditions.
Here’s what you need:
10 cups granny smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup water
1 cup quick-cooking oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup butter, melted
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Place the apples in a 9×13 inch pan. Mix the white sugar, 1 tablespoon flour and cinnamon together, and sprinkle over apples. Pour water evenly over it all.
Combine the oats, 1 cup flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and melted butter together. Crumble evenly over the apple mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees F for about 45 minutes.
Your house will smell wonderful while this is baking. I let it cool about 30 minutes before serving it warm with some vanilla bean ice cream.

Enjoy!
Apples, oatmeal and cinnamon are all super foods (not to mention DELIcious!). Would you consider linking this post to the October Fest Carnival of Super Foods at Kitchen Stewardship next Thursday? Thanks!!

I love oatmeal crisp..of course with good vanilla ice cream!
I make one similar to this but I add toasted walnuts or pecans to the crisp topping. Yep! Gotta' have that vanilla ice cream to make it fantastic. I would love for you to participate in Crock Pot Wednesday if you would like.
