What Is Dump Cake?

Dump cake is an easy dessert recipe. For those unfamiliar with the concept, a dump cake is essentially as easy as it sounds. You “dump” a few key ingredients into a baking dish and let the oven do the magic. No complicated steps or elaborate preparations required—just deliciousness awaiting you! No mixing bowl needed for this!

They only take a few ingredients and they can easily be switched up with different fruits and flavors.

Dump cakes start with some type of pie filling and/or canned fruit.

Then you need a box of cake mix. For this dump cake, I’m using a spice cake mix.

Finally, you need melted butter.

That’s all. You literally are just dumping into a pan and baking.

Add the Cake Mix:

Sprinkle the dry cake mix over the top of the apple pie filling. Spice cake mix is great because it already has all those wonderful fall spices: cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, etc. You want an even coating of the spiced cake mix over the apples. Don’t worry about mixing—this is a dump cake, after all!
