Chocolate Caramel Apple Bark is an easy candy you can make that’s a fun twist on caramel apples!
Indulge in the perfect blend of fall flavors with our Chocolate Caramel Apple Bark recipe. Easy to make and even easier to enjoy, this sweet treat combines rich chocolate, gooey caramel, and fresh apple chunks. Perfect for gifting or snacking!
Melt the Chocolate
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt your chocolate in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until they’re smooth and glossy. Alternatively, you can use a double boiler to melt the chocolate. This step is key, so don’t rush it! I used milk chocolate melts, but you could use semi-sweet chocolate chips, dark chocolate, whatever you prefer.
On a parchment paper-lined baking sheet, pour the melted chocolate and spread it evenly, forming the base layer. The parchment paper will make it easier to remove the bark later.
Then place it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes so the chocolate sets up.
Prep the Apples
Start by washing, coring, and slicing your apples into small, bite-sized chunks. You can peel them if you prefer, but I love the extra crunch and color the skin provides.
I used Granny Smith apples for my bark, but you can use whatever you prefer. I think a crisp apple works best though. I used only half a giant diced apple for this recipe.
Spread the Caramel
For my caramel sauce layer I used a caramel dip. It is already done and a great consistency that is spreadable. So after the chocolate has set up in the fridge you just spread the caramel on top of the chocolate.
Add the Apples
Now, it’s time for the star of the show—those juicy apple chunks. Arrange them on top of the caramel layer. You can go as light or as generous as you like with the apple pieces. If you’re feeling adventurous, this is where you can sprinkle some crushed nuts and a pinch of sea salt for that perfect balance of sweet and salty.
Chill and Set
Pop the baking sheet in the refrigerator and allow your creation to set for about 1 hour. You’ll know it’s ready when everything is firm and breakable. Then break them into bite size pieces to enjoy!
Chocolate Caramel Apple Bark
Equipment
- rimmed sheet pan
- parchment paper
Ingredients
- 3 cups milk chocolate melts you can use chocolate chips
- 1 cup caramel dip
- ½ large Granny Smith apple you can use any type of apple and use more or less, whatever you prefer
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
- Have your prepared cookie sheet ready with parchment paper on top of a rimmed baking sheet. I used a 9"x12" pan.
- In a microwave safe bowl, add your chocolate to melt. Heat at 30 second increments. Stir after each 30 seconds and repeat until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
- After melted, pour the chocolate onto the parchment paper and spread it around in an even layer.
- Place in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to set up.
- Wash and core your apple. Cut into bite sized chunks. Place in a small bowl and toss with the lemon juice to help to keep the apple from browning.
- Once the chocolate has set up, remove from the refrigerator. Now you can take the caramel dip and you can spread it over the set up chocolate.
- Then sprinkle your diced apples on top of the caramel.
- Then place the bark back into the refrigerator for at least 30 more minutes, preferably 1 hr.
Other Topping Options
- pretzels – crumble chunks of pretzels for some great crunch and saltiness
- drizzle – add a drizzle of the melted chocolate on top of the apple layer before putting in the refrigerator to set up.
- sea salt flakes – if you love a salted caramel this addition sprinkled on top will be delicious
The result is a fantastic medley of flavors and textures. The smooth, velvety chocolate is beautifully contrasted by the chewy, rich caramel, while the fresh, crisp apple chunks add a delightful crunch and a burst of fruity goodness.
This Caramel Apple Chocolate Bark is not only a sweet masterpiece; it’s also a wonderful gift idea for the upcoming holidays. Wrap it up in colorful cellophane or present it in a festive tin for a homemade touch that everyone will appreciate.
