Only 5 days left…

Sharing is caring!

till my kiddos start school!!!

I can’t believe summer is almost over.

My youngest is starting Kindergarten and my oldest is entering 4th grade, so I am so happy to have everyone in one place for 2 years.

I’ve taken on the role of PTA Secretary this year and I’m so excited that I can be more involved (as everyone is in one place).  They are going to a brand new school too just outside our housing track… so very exciting times.

So these last few weeks we’ve been prepping for school.

Going through clothes to see what still fits… buying school supplies…

and I made a few cute improvements to my “school central” area that I wanted to share with you.  You can see what it looked like before in this POST.

First… I added some chalkboard paint to my school supply buckets.

These are plastic, so I did a coat of primer and then 2 coats of chalkboard paint.

The more labeling the better :)  Better chance they are put back correctly, right!

These buckets and the holder were purchased at Ikea.

Then I decided to update my little clothespins with some cute scrapbook paper I had leftover from my menu board.  This simple twine & clothespin area is where I show-off the kiddo’s school work.

I just cut the paper to fit the top of the clothespin and used my homemade mod podge (1/2 white glue / 1/2 water) to glue them down and followed with a top coat of the same mixture.

Then I took some black acrylic paint and lightly wiped around the edge of the paper to kinda outline it  & it was a great way to hide the few where I had cut the paper a little too small… Sssshhh!  But I LOVE the dimension it gives them too.

Awe… so I’m feeling like we’re almost all ready.

How about you?  Are you ready for school to start?  When do your kiddos start?

I’m sharing my school area improvements at the WONDERFUL parties in my “PARTIES” menu bar button!

  1. I'm so impressed and jealous! I'm also so behind! Thanks for linking up to Style Feature Saturday! -shaunna 🙂

  2. I have five kids with three in school and I am always interested in creative ways to keep all their stuff under control. This was great. I want to try making a supply station now too. Maybe that would keep everything from turning into a box of junk. I would also love to feature you on my blog if that is ok. You seem to have so many wonderful ideas. I love creative people.

  3. We start back up on Wednesday and I'm still gathering supplies! We are always doing the pen, pencil, eraser hunt (my wee girl has been looking for one specific red pen for two weeks now…she's determined to find it! lol) and having an organized home (more than our pen/pencil pail on the desk, would give us back more than just minutes. Great idea and I love the chalkboard paint, making it easy to reuse them for different materials as needs change! :>

  4. I love this idea, Maryann! Where did summer go? I can't believe all the kiddos are already on their way back to school. Looks like you're well prepared though! 🙂

  5. PTA Secretary…big job….you will definitely be involved in your children's school. Your preparations for the start of school are darling. Thank you for sharing your precious designs. Cherry Kay

  6. Hello again Maryann! I want to let you know that I shared your school wall and buckets on my blog, with a link back of course!
I can't wait to make some of those buckets!

  7. Stopping by to say I LOVE your blog! Lots of sassy ideas! I would love it if you would add me to your blog list… you are already on mine! 🙂

    …visiting from Sassy Sites!
(cause your blog is a sassy site!)

  8. I share your excitement. I also have a new kindergartener and 4th grader. The thought of everyone being on the same schedule has me giddy!

We don't start until after Labor Day, though, so our summer is still going strong.

  9. Those are SO cute! I love labeling, makes me feel more organized…even if the label doesn't actual reflect what's inside! 🙂

My kids have 2 more weeks of summer.

  10. What a MOM!!!! how cool that you take such pride in your children's schooling. Makes them "want" to achieve. Great job!!!

  11. I only have one left in school and he started last week! He is in 11th grade so we don't have all the neat organizational stuff anymore. But I loved doing that when they were little! Very cute ideas.

  12. Good Morning Maryann! School starts here tomorrow but I homeschool and start next week with some of our studies and then our co-op starts at thend of the month. I LOVE school prep, the gathering of supplies, new books…organization! I'm going to be tackling my "schoolroom" next week too~ I'd like to borrow your chalk board label idea!
    Thanks for sharing!
